Census snapshot: Snohomish
This is one of a series of looks at Snohomish and Island county communities based on data from the U.S. Census of 2010.
Snohomish prides itself for an historical downtown and was once known for its many antique shops as the "Antique Capital of the Northwest."
The historic business and residential centers of the town comprise the Snohomish Historic District, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Many houses bear plaques with the year the house was built and the name of the family or individual who originally occupied it. The city gives tours of the historic houses annually. One of them, the Blackman House, is a year-round museum.
Snohomish was founded around 1858 by E.C. Ferguson, E.F. Cady and others and was originally known as Cadyville. The name was changed to Snohomish City in 1871.
An airport, Harvey Field, is less than a mile southwest of downtown Snohomish.
