Kivlehan homers twice, AquaSox pound Canadians
Kivlehan’s first home run — a two-run shot to center field — came in the top of the first inning and drove in first baseman Taylor Ard, who reached base after being hit by Canadians starter Ben White.
The home run was Kivlehan’s fourth of the season and gave Everett the early 2-0 lead.
Kivlehan’s second long ball was a three-run shot that came in the top of the sixth inning. Christopher Taylor was hit by a pitch, and Ard reached on a fielder’s choice before Kivlehan stepped up and launched his fifth home run of the year to give the AquaSox a comfortable 10-4 lead.
Kivlehan finished the game 2-for-4 with five RBI and three runs scored.
Everett reliever Dominic Leone (3-0) earned the victory for the AquaSox after pitching three scoreless innings and allowing only one hit.
Vancouver, who scored one run in each of the games first four innings, did not threaten the Everett lead until the eighth inning.
AquaSox closer Oliver Garcia relieved Leone and immediately walked Daniel Arcila and Dan Klein on eight consecutive pitches. Garcia retired shortstop Jorge Flores on a fly out to right field that advanced Arcila and Klein. After another walk to Monroe High School graduate Ian Parmley, Garcia issued a free pass to Kellen Sweeney with the bases loaded to pull the Canadians within five at 10-5.
Garcia was relieved by Marcos Reyna who subsequently walked the first batter he faced, designated hitter Jason Leblebijian, before retiring the next two Vancouver hitters to get out of the innings’ third bases-loaded jam with a 10-6 lead.
The AquaSox (17-7) pitchers allowed 10 walks on the afternoon.
Canadians pitchers hit five Everett batters.
Designated hitter Jean Acevedo added to the Everett offense by hitting a two-run home run in the third inning — his first of the year. Acevedo would finish the game 2-for-4 with two RBI and one walk.
Parmley finished 0-for-3 with two walks and two runs scored for the Canadians.
