SEATTLE -- Seattle police say a man and woman were shot several times inside an apartment, and the woman's ex-boyfriend has been taken in custody for investigation of assault.

Police spokesman Renee Witt said a witness told police the ex-boyfriend opened fire on both victims inside an apartment in the Ballard neighborhood early Saturday. The witness, the woman's daughter, was able to provide police with the suspect's name and vehicle information.

Police spotted the vehicle and stopped it in south Seattle.

Witt says the man is expected to be booked into King County Jail Saturday for investigation of assault.

The woman and man were taken to Harborview Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.
