Young entrepreneur receives scholarship
The National Federation of Independent Business recently named Aaron Furrer as one of their five Young Entrepreneur finalists for 2012.
Furrer, a 2012 graduate of Monroe High School, received a $5,000 educational scholarship in recognition of his entrepreneurial endeavors and an all-expense paid trip with his parents to Washington, D.C., in May, where he was recognized at the National Federation of Independent Business summit.
In his business, Three Firs Factoring, Furrer uses an accounting practice to provide cash flow to trucking companies. The truckers sell their accounts receivable to him at a discount in exchange for cash with which to fund their business. He received first place honors at the state DECA conference last year in the Entrepreneurship Participating Event for this same business.
Furrer also has run a beef and hay business for six years, in addition to working on his parents’ farm.
Furrer will use his scholarship at Stanford University, where he plans to major in biochemistry with a minor in business entrepreneurship. His long-term goal is to open his own research lab, combining both science and entrepreneurship.
