EDMONDS -- Two people fled the scene Wednesday after the car they were riding in crashed down an Edmonds-area embankment.

The wreck happened about midnight near the 6800 block of Picnic Point Road, Snohomish County sheriff's spokeswoman Shari Ireton said.

Police believe five people were in the car before it came to rest about 100 yards down the embankment, Ireton said. The driver and one passenger ran away. Two other passengers were taken to a local hospital with minor injuries.

Police know the identity of the driver, but he had not been arrested as of late Thursday morning

The crash remains under investigation.
