Arlington students hold camp for kids
The NeoBots club at Arlington High School offered a three-day Robotics Camp last week for children in grades 4 through 7.
Club members taught the kids how to build and program LEGO robots. The high school students offered two sessions each day, with 20 kids and 10 mentors in each.
Sky Valley ABATE makes donations
Sky Valley American Bikers Aimed Toward Education, a local motorcycle group, recently donated $2,500 to the Snohomish Senior Center and $500 to the Snohomish Food Bank.
The donations were made as a thank-you gesture to the city of Snohomish, which this year welcomed back the Classic and Antique Motorcycle Show, said ABATE officers.
Jazzinators donate time and tunes
Arlington High School alumnus Jeremy Faxon, a music teacher in Poulsbo, has volunteered to run a 50-member band, the Jazzinators, for a month during each of the past 10 summers.
The band, primarily middle and high school students, performed at the recent Arlington Fly-In and gave a community concert July 17 at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Arlington.
This was Faxon’s final year in the volunteer position.
Monroe 4-H helps horse rescue group
Ultimate Equines, a Monroe-based horse 4-H group, volunteered July 15 at People Helping Horses, a horse rescue operation in Arlington.
Ultimate Equines raised money by selling cookies and bought supplies for the rescue operation. In addition, the club decorated 30 horseshoes to be sold as a fundraiser at an upcoming open house celebrating the rescue operation’s 10th anniversary.
Club members decided to help after learning that the rescue operation had helped 26 starving horses from Skagit County.
Everett neighborhood donates to arboretum
Barbara Kasselman recently presented a check to the Evergreen Arboretum and Garden Foundation.
Kasselman, of the Northwest Everett Neighborhood Association, was pleased to be the first donor for the arboretum’s garden renovations and expansion, slated to begin in 2013 as part of its 15th anniversary.
Association volunteers said they hope donations will help ensure the arboretum’s future as Snohomish County destination.
Arlington Kids’ Kloset donation
Gene Bryson and Bob Penny from Windermere Real Estate in Arlington raised $1,750 in pledges for the Arlington Kids’ Kloset by completing the 204-mile bicycle ride from Seattle to Portland in mid-July.
Arlington Kids’ Kloset, a nonprofit supported by volunteers, provides clothing to children from low-income families in the Arlington, Lakewood and Darrington school districts.
