Congressional candidates face off at noon in final forum

All seven candidates in the 1st Congressional District race are expected to take part in a forum today that will be their last joint appearance before the Aug. 7 primary election.

The forum, sponsored by the Seattle City Club, begins at noon in the Rainier Room on the Microsoft campus in Redmond. It is sold out but TVW will webcast the event live. Check back here to watch.

The two candidates with the most votes in the primary will advance to the November ballot.

It looks pretty certain the one Republican in the race, John Koster of Arlington, will capture one of the spots.

That's made this contest mostly about which of the five Democratic candidates will face him.

Darcy Burner of Carnation has been the Democratic front-runner in results of every poll released thus far. Suzan DelBene of Medina has erased much of the gap in recent days on the strength of a nearly million-dollar ad campaign on network and cable television stations.

The other three Democrats - Steve Hobbs of Lake Stevens, Laura Ruderman of Kirkland and Darshan Rauniyar of Bothell -- trail by wide margins in the polls but continue to be confident the large number of undecided voters will swing their way by Aug. 7.

There is one independent in the race, Larry Ishamael of Redmond.
