Last weekend at the Capitol Hill Block Party in Seattle, Jet City Stream teamed up with vitaminwater and Google+ to host sessions with several local artists. The lineup for these session included The Grizzled Mighty, Fly Moon Royalty, Kris Orlowski, Walking Papers and others.
The sessions were intimate, amazing, and in some cases incredibly loud (Absolute Monarchs). Video from the sessions should start to surface soon and I will try to get those posted when they do.
After the Fly Moon Royalty session I was asked to moderate a Google+ “Hangout” with the band and a couple of fans. This is such a great idea. Using the Google+ Hangout feature, fans get to be involved in a live video discussion with one of their favorite artists or bands while anybody else can watch live through a YouTube link.
Any time I rely completely on technology for something to work, I get a little nervous, especially when it involves getting to talk with one of my favorite local bands (love Fly Moon Royalty). I must have looked a little concerned because Nicholas and Adam from Google+ handed me a laptop and said, “Don’t worry. Everything will work fine,” and it did.
This is a fantastic way to bring fans closer to their favorite artists and give them an opportunity to be part of the interview and ask questions that matter them. It worked so well that we are going to be doing more of these Hangouts with more great bands, and I will let you know ahead of time so you can try to jump into the conversation yourself.
Check the Hangout with Adra Boo and Action Jackson of Fly Moon Royalty that is posted below for an idea of how the format works. Below that is a video of Fly Moon Royalty performing their cover of ‘Baby Got Back’ on the Vera stage at Capitol Hill Block Party last Saturday.
