GOLD BAR — Organizers are aiming to make this weekend’s Gold Dust Days Festival the best one ever.
“This is going to be the best one we ever had, because of the high level of community involvement and the perfect weather,” Sky Valley Chamber of Commerce director Debbie Copple said.
The Gold Dust Days start at 3 p.m. today at Gold Bar Elementary School, 419 Lewis St.
Most of the activities are free.
People can enjoy decorating their bikes, compete in sack races against firefighters and learn about Civil War history at this three-day event.
People can see reenactments at a park alongside U.S. 2 just two blocks away from the school, a car show and enjoy live music.
People can also learn about the history of gold panning in the region and how the industry works in present day, Copple said.
“That’s the heritage of the area,” she said.
This is the sixth year the Gold Dust Days are celebrated.
A bicycle parade is scheduled for 6 p.m. Friday on school grounds.
The grand parade is set for 10 a.m. Saturday, on Lewis Avenue.
This parade is also honoring Glenrose Williams, her son Gordon MacDonald and her grandson Brett MacDonald as the 2012 grand parade marshals.
They were named grand marshals because of how many hours they’ve volunteered in the community throughout the years.
