The Stanwood-Camano Community Fair is a “community fair,” in the sense that everyone who wants to is allowed to show their animals or projects.
The word community refers to the fair’s mission, not its entertainment, which nevertheless includes some nationally recognized talent.
The headliner for this year’s fair, which opens Friday and runs through Sunday, is country artist Collin Raye, performing at 9 p.m. Saturday.
Raye is a five-time nominee for country music’s Male Vocalist of the Year. His hits include “Love, Me,” “In This Life,” “Not That Different” and “Little Rock.”
Other well-known acts include children’s entertainer Tim Noah, an Emmy award winning songwriter and producer and nationally acclaimed recording artist.
Also performing is electric six-string violinist Geoffrey Castle, who has shared the stage with Blues Traveler, and all of the original and current members of Heart, Buddy Miles and Alan White of Yes.
Also on tap is Seattle Pipe and Drum and a popular Seattle polka band, the Smiling Scandinavians, whose theme song is the campy and bouncy “Inga Schwinga.”
Ron Stubbs is also performing. His is billed as a comedy hypnosis show that is two parts comedy and one part mind-opening experience.
The fair includes some hometown entertainment as well.
There’s a coloring contest, a lip-sync contest and lots of children’s games.
The grand parade begins at 11 a.m. Saturday at the train station, 27111 Florence Way, and wends its way through the town of Stanwood along 271st Street NW to Josephine Sunset Home,
There’s also the Davis Amusements Cascadia carnival offering daily rides from 11 a.m. to midnight. Bracelets can be purchased at the carnival during the fair for $28.
The Stanwood-Camano Community Fair boasts that it is the largest community fair in the state. All youth can exhibit regardless of whether they belong to 4-H or Future Farmers of America. All adults can exhibit in the indoor categories, according to the fair website.
The Stanwood-Camano Fair fair opens at 9 a.m. Friday and runs from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at 6431 Pioneer Highway, Stanwood.

Free parking is available at Stanwood High School, 7400 272nd St. NW, where a free shuttle bus takes you to the gate. Parking is also available across the road from the fairgrounds, 64th Ave. NW, for $5 per day.
