MILL CREEK — An 11-year-old boy was rushed to a Seattle hospital Monday after nearly drowning in Martha Lake, just west of Mill Creek.

The boy apparently was swimming by himself without a lifejacket, Snohomish County sheriff’s spokeswoman Shari Ireton said.

A passerby spotted him in the water about 6:20 p.m. and called 911. The passerby tried to pull the boy out but couldn’t, Ireton said.

Rescue crews found the boy six or eight feet under water. They pulled him to the surface and began resuscitation efforts.

His injuries were described as life-threatening.

The boy’s hometown and additional details were not available Monday night.

The Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office and Snohomish County Fire District 1 responded.
