Lakewood sixth graders are looking for Arlington-area seniors willing to exchange letters once or twice a month.
The Lakewood pen pals will have a chance to meet at the end of the school year.

Artist opportunity: The Lynnwood Arts Commission will select artists for month-long exhibitions for 2013. All visual artists in Washington are invited to apply. Deadline is Sept. 23. Cruise in to end homelessness: Cruise over to the Volunteers of America Car &Motorcycle Show on Aug. 18 to help raise money for homelessness prevention programs in Snohomish County. Come and marvel at imports, classic cars and motorcycles. This family event will include music, food, raffles, a petting farm, farmers market and other vendors. There is no cost for car show spectators.
All car and motorcycle types are welcome to enter the show. There is an entry fee of $20. Registration begins at 7 a.m. Event opens to spectators at 9 a.m. Prizes awarded at 3 p.m.
This first-time event, held at Carlton Farms, 630 Sunnyside Blvd. SE, will raise funds and awareness for Volunteers of America Homelessness Prevention Programs.
