Promoters for the Taste of Edmonds festival boast that there are so many food vendors that a person could get three squares a day during the three-day festival and still not have tried all the food choices.
Arnies Restaurant decided to participate in the Taste this year.
Arnies opened on the Edmonds waterfront more than 30 years ago, one year before the Taste began, specializing in seafood.
Arnies menu at this year’s Taste will include salmon tacos, a noodle bowl and a bay shrimp cocktail.
“We just decided the Taste was a good way for us to reach out to the community,” said Fran Lumm, general manager and part owner of Arnies.
Lumm said the Taste festival is much more extravagant now than it was in the beginning. And that might be an understatement.
The Taste, celebrating its 30th birthday this year, is one of the state’s biggest three-day festivals and it gets that billing by offering four stages of entertainment, a wide variety of arts and crafts and food, a beer and wine garden, and enough children’s activities to please the fussiest toddler.
There are pony rides, a huge rock climbing wall, bouncy inflatables, free face painting, clowns making animal balloon shapes and the Woodland Park Zoo exhibit.
On the Kids’ Stage, popular acts are almost nonstop and include Reptile Isle, Kids Karaoke, the kindie rock band The Not Its, a martial arts exhibition and juggling.
Roving performers include Mariachi Fiesta Mexicana and Janet Rayor, the beautiful stilt dancer.
Older kids and adults might want to get their spy on watching Mark Soop do his impeccable imitation of Austin Powers.
Main stage headliners this year include 2007 American Idol runner-up Blake Lewis, the Beatles tribute band British Export, and the Seattle-based group Heart By Heart.
The Taste this year is offering free admission until 3 p.m. Friday only. Admission otherwise is $3 general, and free to kids age 12 and under.
A free shuttle from Edmonds Woodway High School, 7600 212th St. SW, Edmonds, leaves every 15 minutes beginning at 11 a.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
Taste of Edmonds runs from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday at Civic Center Playfield, 310 Sixth Ave. N, Edmonds.
