EVERETT -- A Snohomish man accused of ramming a sheriff's deputy is off to prison for two years.
Keith Jones, 34, pleaded guilty to a handful of felony charges, including second-degree assault of a police officer. A judge on Wednesday agreed to sentence Jones to the low-end of the range.
Jones was behind the wheel of a stolen pickup truck May 7 when, during a traffic stop, he backed into a Snohomish County sheriff's deputy's pricey patrol motorcycle. The deputy was thrown from the bike and into the path of traffic. He escaped being run over, but suffered minor injuries to his wrist.
Jones sped off, leaving tire marks on the pavement. Police discovered the stolen construction truck two days later in Monroe. Inside the pickup, they found a receipt for cigarettes from the Clearview Foodmart. Detectives discovered that the store's surveillance camera caught the suspect getting out of the truck. When they caught up with Jones, he already was cooling his heels in jail after being arrested for shoplifting a week after the assault.
