SPOKANE — Patrick Kivlehan and Marcus Littlewood helped power the Everett AquaSox to an 8-3 victory over the Spokane Indians on Wednesday night in Northwest League play.
Kivlehan homered to give Everett the lead in the top of the first inning, then Littlewood homered in the fifth to break the game open.
Christian Carmichael, making his Sox debut after being called up to take Mike Zunino’s place on the roster, went 3-for-5 for Everett (10-12 second half, 38-22), which won four games in the five-game series.
Steven Ewing battled through five innings to pick up the win. The left-hander scattered seven hits and two walks, striking out one to improve to 3-1.
Royce Bollinger went 3-for-4 to lead Spokane (9-13, 21-38).
Everett took the lead in the top of the first when Kivlehan slugged a two-run homer to center, giving the Sox an early 2-0 lead. The homer was Kivlehan’s 10th of the season, matching Zunino for the league lead.
Spokane got one back in the second when Christopher Garia’s groundout scored Joe Maloney from third to make it 2-1.
The Sox had the chance to break the game open in the third when they loaded the bases with nobody out. Taylor Ard lined an RBI single over the glove of leaping shortstop Gabriel Roa to bring home one run. However, that’s all Everett got as Brooks got Littlewood, Alfredo Morales and Ketel Marte out without allowing another run, and it remained 3-1.
Spokane pulled back within one in the fourth when Garia was hit by a pitch, stole two bases — on the second one he was originally called out, but the call was overturned — then scored on Roa’s infield single.
But Everett gained some distance in the fifth when Littlewood belted a three-run homer to right-center, giving the Sox a 6-2 lead.
The Sox piled on in the sixth, scoring two more on Brock Hebert’s bases-loaded walk and Ard’s RBI single, making it 8-2.
Spokane got a consolation run in the eighth with the aid of two Everett errors. However, the Indians got no closer.
