Dream name Williams head coach and GM

The Atlanta Dream announced on Monday that Fred Williams has been named the team's new head coach and general manager.

Williams has served as an assistant coach for the Dream for the past four seasons and takes over for Marynell Meadors, who was fired.

"Coach Williams brings a wealth of experience, a strong sense of teamwork, and demonstrated commitment to the role of Head Coach and General Manager," Dream co-owners Mary Brock and Kelly Loeffler said in a press release on the league's website. "We have tremendous respect for her contributions to this sport and wish Coach Meadors the very best in her future endeavors.

The Dream have represented the Eastern Conference in the WNBA Finals the past two seasons, losing to Seattle in 2010 and Minnesota in 2011. Atlanta was 12-12 at the time of Meadors firing, which happened in the wake of reported problems between her and star forward Angel McCoughtry.
