How Freedom guided his life

Fighting cancer can take many forms: chemotherapy, radiation or holistic remedies. There's also positive thinking, lifestyle changes and starting a healthy diet.
Jeff Guidry fought his battle with the help of an eagle named Freedom.
Guidry, president of the board of directors of the Sarvey Wildlife Center, wrote a book, "An Eagle Named Freedom: My True Story of a Remarkable Friendship," in which he chronicled how he encouraged Freedom to survive after falling from a nest as a fledgling and breaking both wings. In turn, she gave Guidry the positive energy he needed to win his battle with cancer.
Guidry will present Freedom and retell his story during a program Saturday at the Northwest Stream Center.
Guidry's talk also will focus on eagle habits and habitat requirements.
Adopt A Stream Foundation's Tom Murdoch says Guidry is an unusual Streamkeeper Academy presenter. He is a rock and rhythm-and-blues guitarist who has played with The Beach Boys' Brian Wilson and guitarist Roy Buchanan.
Guidry has volunteered for the Sarvey Wildlife Center, working with bears and cougars as well as eagles, Murdoch said.
Guidry has a low-key approach and brings lots of eagle tales to share. Guidry and Freedom also have a special way of communicating that they will show the audience.
Freedom is an eagle who is a bit of a ham because she likes to be in front of a big crowd and likes to have her picture taken.
In addition to Freedom, Guidry will introduce the audience to retired Alaskan sled dog Jack Daniels, who enjoys pats on the head.
The Freedom and Guidry progam begins at 11 a.m. Saturday at the NW Stream Center, 600 128th St. SE, Everett. Reservations are required by calling 425-316-8592.
