Former Everett and Univ. of Portland volleyball player out for season
Sophomore Emily Liger, a 6-foot outside hitter from Everett who had become a part of UP's rotation this season, suffered a season-ending injury on Sept. 1. That means that the Everett High graduate doesn't get to play against No. 5 University of Washington tonight, nor will she be on the court when the Pilots face No. 2 Penn State in the Nittany Lions' tournament this weekend. Portland (5-5 heading into Tuesday's match against UW) is scheduled to face the Nittany Lions in the opening round of the Penn State Classic on Friday night.
Liger played in the Pilots' first seven matches this season and leads the team in attack percentage (.353). She ranks third on the team in points per set (2.83).
Liger, who played in just four sets as a freshman last year, suffered an undisclosed injury in the first set of a Sept. 1 home match against UNLV. She had five kills in the first set of that match, which the Pilots went on to win in five sets.
