Scott Odiorne, of scoreczar.com, has put out his first computer-based rankings and there are some pleasant surprises for local schools.
And a couple of shockers.
In the pleasant surprise category, both Kamiak (No. 8) and Lake Stevens (No. 9) crack the 4A top 10 despite not even being on the watch list of the Associated Press poll. Both teams are 2-1 after putting together two wins after season-opening losses to tough opponents.
In 3A, Meadowdale is ranked sixth and Glacier Peak (No. 8) and Oak Harbor (No. 10) are all in the top 10 and are similarly ranked in the most recent AP poll.
It’s in the lower classifications where the real shocks are, including Lakewood and Archbishop Murphy not even gracing the top 10 or the “others” list. Lakewood, despite being 3-0 with dominating wins over Washington and Meridian, and a nice victory over a scrappy 1A Blaine team last weekend, have 3.04 points and Archbishop Murphy, which is coming off a loss to King’s, has 4.94 points. The final team on the “others” list in 2A is Sehome with 2.73.
In 1A, King’s missed the top 10 but is in the “others” list with 2.22 points despite being No. 1 in the first AP poll. The Knights have wins over Lynden, which is ranked No. 9 in 2A, and Archbishop Murphy, another strong 2A team, but probably suffer from the high point totals it gave up to the Lions in Week 1.
