Paine Field

County needs to revisit decision

So, the FAA has announced there's nothing to keep commercial airline service from coming to Paine Field. The FAA, whose mission is expanding airports, has decided to satisfy the needs and wants of a very few -- mostly airlines and developers -- over the very real need for quality of life and property investment protection for tens of thousands of citizens in the affected communities. Way to go.

After years of the FAA intimidating elected officials and ignoring the concerns voiced by almost 1,000 written questions from the community -- it took the FAA 2 ½ years to respond -- I urge the Snohomish County Council to revisit its decision allowing a terminal to be built at Paine Field, as well as an appeal that demands an Environmental Impact Study (EIS) be done with realistic flight expectations for many years to come. (You would be shocked at the rapid increase in Allegiant Air flights from Bellingham International Airport over the past several years.) And, bottom line, do we really need three commercial airports within a three-hour drive on the I-5 corridor?
