Walla Walla penitentiary nurse assaulted by inmate

WALLA WALLA -- A Washington state Penitentiary inmate assaulted a nurse who was checking his blood pressure during a medical examination at the prison in Walla Walla.
The Department of Corrections says 58-year-old inmate Steve D. McDonald became agitated Wednesday and hit the nurse in the head. The nurse suffered a minor injury.
The Union-Bulletin reports correctional officers had to use pepper spray to subdue McDonald. He's serving a life sentence as a three strikes offender after a 2002 arson conviction in Skagit County.
