Island County: Drop off unwanted prescription drugs
Police in Island County plan another drug take-back day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 29.
People are asked to rid their homes of expired, unused and unwanted prescription drugs to prevent pill abuse and theft.
The drop-off service is free and anonymous.
Locations are the Island County Sheriff’s Office, 5521 E. Harbor Road, Freeland, the Coupeville Marshal’s Office 4 NE Seventh St, Coupeville, and the Oak Harbor police department, 860 SE Barrington Drive, Oak Harbor.
Lake Stevens: Celebrate Oktoberfest at downtown event
The Lake Stevens Chamber of Commerce’s largest fundraising event, Oktoberfest, is set for Sept. 28-30.
The downtown event follows the traditional Munich Oktoberfest that starts in September.
Proceeds from the annual festival help fund college scholarships.
Oktoberfest activities are set around Main Street and are scheduled to include Bavarian entertainment provided by the group Enzian Schuhplatter, bands, carnival rides, food and arts and craft vendors.
The event is planned from 3 to 7 p.m. Sept. 28, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sept. 29, and from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 30.

Stanwood: Dinner to raise money for clinic
A fundraiser dinner to benefit Safe Harbor Free Clinic is to feature stories from people who say their lives were transformed at the walk-in clinic based in Stanwood.
Mayor Dianne White also is scheduled to speak at the event.
“Unity in the Community” is the theme of the dinner, set for 5:30 p.m. Sept. 29 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, 27201 99th Ave., Stanwood.
A donation of $100 to support Safe Harbor Clinic includes the dinner, organizers said.

Over the past three years, the free clinic has served nearly 3,500 uninsured patients who travel from many counties to take advantage of the help.
The clinic relies on contributions and grants to exist. Open Fridays from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Skagit Regional Clinic in Stanwood, Safe Harbor primarily address chronic illnesses, podiatry and women’s health.
