MARYSVILLE -- Behind 95 all-purpose yards from senior Zander Seymer, Marysville Getchell was able to pull off the upset by defeating Stanwood 24-8 to earn not only its second win in a row but second win in school history on Friday night.

"We are just believing in ourselves right now," said Chargers head coach Davis Lura on his team's victory. "Our guys now have that feeling that we are finally proving people wrong."

Marysville Getchell was able to bounce back after being down 8-0 in the first quarter off a 14-yard run from Spartans' running back Wyatt Nichols. Seymer would then run for two consecutive touchdowns for the Chargers in the second quarter, including a 45-yard run, to swing the momentum of the game to Getchell. Their defense would take care of the rest, shutting out Stanwood in the game's final three quarters.

"(Zander) moves around a lot, and we use him in a lot of positions," said Lura. "That (45-yard) run was a sweep where he just turned the corner, found some space and was just gone."

Besides Seymer the Chargers were led by Ryan Lacoste, who had two interceptions to go along with his three tackles and Nick Claus, who intercepted a Drew Wright pass and returned it 22 yards for a touchdown in the third quarter.

Stanwood was led by Nichols' 71 yards on nine carries and a touchdown.

Although Marysville Getchell is now 2-2 for the first time in school history, Lura's mind seemed to be on injured lineman junior Ryan Gamble, who was carted off the field with 10 minutes remaining in the second quarter.

"There was movement before (Ryan) was carted off the field," said Lura. "But from last we heard he appears to be responsive and doing very well."
