TULALIP — Chuck James, treasurer for the Tulalip Tribes, was presented with the prestigious Native American Finance Officers Association’s Lifetime Achievement Award for Outstanding Financial Leadership at an association ceremony in San Diego on Sept. 11. The award honors Native American leaders who have committed to a lifetime of service to tribal communities.

EVERETT — Everett Community College biology instructor Pamela Pape-Lindstrom was one of 40 college biology faculty members across the nation selected as a Vision and Change Leadership Fellow by the Partnership for Undergraduate Life Sciences Education. Pape-Lindstrom has taught at EvCC since 2000 and is the chair of the college’s Life Sciences Department.

EVERETT — Dr. John Pryor of Everett Bone &Joint Proliance Surgeons has received board certification by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery. Certification means he has met specified educational, evaluation and examination requirements. Pryor completed his residency training at Boston University Medical Center and an adult spine surgery fellowship at Harvard Medical School.

EVERETT — Jonathan Shelton, Kevin Brett, Jack Adams and Steve Hansen have joined Kirtley-Cole Associates LLC. Shelton and Brett join the firm as project engineers. Adams joins the firm as a superintendent. Hansen will be a senior project manager. Kirtley-Cole Associates is a privately held construction company offering general contracting, preconstruction management and team-build services in the greater Puget Sound area.

BOTHELL — CMC Biologics has hired Mark Sawicki to serve as the company’s new vice president of global business development. Sawicki will be focused on business development, sales management and the integration and alignment of the company’s global sales and marketing team. He brings 10 years of business development and sales management experience to the position.

MARYSVILLE — The recently remodeled Everett Community College School of Cosmetology has hired a new instructor, Armand Pacheco. He has 26 years of salon experience. Pacheco previously worked as hairstylist and as a cosmetology school director, lead educator and artistic director for Gene Juarez and Gary Manuel Aveda Academies.

EDMONDS — CG Engineering in Edmonds has hired Amber Maechler as marketing and business development manager. She brings nearly a decade of experience in marketing management and creative services. Her primary role will be to support the CG team through marketing the firm’s structural and civil engineering services to owners, developers, architects and contractors in 11 states.

MOUNTLAKE TERRACE — City of Mountlake Terrace finance director Sonja Springer and treasurer Mick Horton have earned the Professional Finance Officer Award from the Washington Finance Officers Association for the seventh year in a row. The Government Finance Officers Association awarded the city its Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for preparation of the 2011-2012 Biennial Budget.

EVERETT — Laura’s Alterations owner Laura Wang opened her fifth store at Everett Mall. Wang received her bachelor’s degree in fashion design and studied for three years in Japan. She opened her first store at Bellis Fair in Bellingham in 2008. Laura’s Alterations offers same-day service.

MOUNTLAKE TERRACE — 1st Security Bank has appointed Lisa Palmer to the position of loan officer. She has been voted a Five-Star Mortgage Originator by Seattle Magazine three times in the past four years and was consistently among the highest producing loan officers at Golf Savings Bank and Sterling Savings Bank.

EVERETT — Everett Public Schools Foundation has hired Julie Frauenholtz as its new development coordinator. She will provide staff leadership for the foundation’s fundraising and marketing efforts. For the past 20 years, she has worked in nonprofit management, community organizing and fund development, including 13 years with YMCA of Snohomish County.

BOTHELL — Western Washington Medical Group has added a nationally accredited Diabetes and Nutrition Education Center at the Woodlands Multi-Specialty Center in Canyon Park and the Silver Lake Medical Center in Everett. The diabetes education program will be directed by Jennifer Okemah. Group classes will be led by Sarah Rosenbloom, RN. Lyn Woods will provide medical nutrition therapy.

EVERETT — Silver Lake Eye Care has joined the national optometric network Vision Source. Owner Dr. Lynette Sundholm earned her degree from the Illinois College of Optometry and is a member of the American Optometric Association, Optometric Physicians of Washington and the Snohomish Society. She has been an optometrist in Everett for 25 years.

LYNNWOOD — Anne Clarke has joined the Snohomish County Tourism Bureau as group sales manager, responsible for promoting Snohomish County’s convention facilities to meeting and event planners. Clarke previously was the event coordinator at Dunegrass Country Club in Old Orchard Beach, Maine, where she marketed and coordinated golf tournaments, weddings and corporate and club events.

MILL CREEK — Mill Creek Vision has added Kathi Woods-Shelton to their practice. She has been a licensed optician in the area for more than 25 years. Her previous experience includes 17 years as the managing optician at the Gallery of Eyewear located inside Physician’s Eye Clinic in Everett and eight years practicing at The Everett Clinic Vision Center.

EVERETT — The KSER Foundation has announced its 2012-2013 board of directors. There will be four new directors on the board. They are Cheryl Telford, Marla Hamilton Lucas, David Kosar and Brad Goergen. Board members Karen Crowley, Sandy Thompson, Miriam Driss and Tom Killorin reached the conclusion of their terms and have retired from the KSER Foundation.

LYNNWOOD — AAA Washington recently hired Linda Jacques and Michele King as travel agents at its Lynnwood office at 4100 Alderwood Mall Blvd. Jacques and King specialize in leisure travel including local, domestic and international cruises, cruise tours, rail tours, escorted land tours and Disney vacation packages.

MOUNTLAKE TERRACE — 1st Security Bank of Washington has opened a home-lending office in Bellevue under the leadership of Lisa Pim, who was hired earlier this year as manager and loan officer. Pim is a Bellevue resident and community supporter who has worked in the area for many years.

EVERETT — Christine Malone, director of Heart &Vascular, GI and the Hand Center at The Everett Clinic, has just published her third book, “Medical Office Management.” Malone began writing the textbook in 2010 after teaching six years at Everett Community College in the Health Sciences Department. It is published by Pearson Prentice Hall Publishers and is currently on sale at Amazon.com.

EVERETT — The Snohomish Health District presented its Public Health Hero Award to Sondra Santos, morning host of The Takeaway program on KSER 90.7 FM in Everett. The award honors individuals who have demonstrated unparalleled support of local public health activities or policies in Snohomish County.

EVERETT — Intermec has announced that chief technology officer Arvin Danielson, a 37-year veteran of Intermec, has received the Richard R. Dilling Award. AIM, the Association for Automatic Identification and Mobility, selects one recipient annually for their outstanding contributions that further the growth of the industry.

ARLINGTON — John MacArthur has joined the Washington State Department of Transportation’s aviation division as the Statewide Capital Improvement Program coordinator. MacArthur brings more than 30 years of aviation and project management experience through the military, private sector and the federal government. He holds a commercial pilot rating and is qualified to fly UH-1 Huey and OH-58 Kiowa helicopters.

BOTHELL — David Allen is the new director of the nursing and health studies program at the University of Washington-Bothell. Before joining UW-Bothell, Allen was the chair of the gender, women and sexuality studies department at the University of Washington. He holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in nursing from the University of Wisconsin, with a specialty in dementia and Alzheimer’s disease. He earned his doctorate from the University of Iowa.

BELLINGHAM — Philip J. Buri, a founding partner of Buri Funston Mumford PLLC in Bellingham, has been elected treasurer of the Washington State Bar Association for 2012-2013. As treasurer, he will serve as chair of the Budget and Audit Committee, overseeing the organization’s annual budget of $19 million. Currently, he sits on the organization’s Board of Governors, representing Whatcom, Island, Skagit, San Juan and Snohomish counties.

Pacific International Bank has announced two new executive hires. Janie Sacco is first vice president and SBA manager. Jin Lee is first vice president and relationship manager to the Pacific International Bank team. Sacco has worked in banking for more than 30 years, both in operations management and small-business lending. Lee was a vice president and business development officer for Sterling Savings Bank and US Bank.

Dave Warren recently took over as sales and marketing manager for STIHL Northwest. Warren had worked with STIHL Ltd., the Canadian subsidiary for the STIHL Group, for 19 years. He was the regional manager for the STIHL branch in British Columbia. He will be responsible for growing the brand and market share in the Pacific Northwest region.
