I know, I know, rules can be kind of a bummer.
But they also can be hilarious — and painfully spot-on.
This new guide for people who engage in online commenting communities is the latter.
I’m not usually a fan of self-styled social media “experts” who use social media to prescribe rules for everyone else on social media, but this one’s worth a look.
It was a recommended read last week from The Herald editing staff.
I’ve decided to share it here as well.
The Herald commenting community isn’t exactly known for its adroit cultural commentary. On the crime beat, our stories often get “OP”-style posts that fall in a couple of key themes: Blame the victim, all cops are evil, this newspaper used to be better, and on it goes.
Still, if you’re involved in the Internets, especially ours, give this a read.
Even if you’re a lurker.
While we’re at it, if you haven’t heard of Godwin’s law, brush up on that too.
