GRANITE FALLS — An Arlington man has been arrested for investigation of running his girlfriend over with his car and leaving her seriously injured on the Mountain Loop Highway on Monday.
Detectives booked the suspect, 53, into the Snohomish County Jail on Tuesday morning.
The man admitted to detectives that he and the woman were arguing and she wanted to get out of his vehicle, Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Shari Ireton said. The woman, 58, reportedly jumped from the vehicle while it was still moving.
The suspect told detectives he accidentally drove over her, and then left the scene, Ireton said.
The woman was found near where the highway crosses 119th Street NE. She was flown by helicopter to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.
“The injuries are serious but I wouldn’t call them life-threatening,” Ireton said.
A cellphone found at the scene led detectives to the identity of both the suspect and victim.
“They called a few numbers in the phone and were able to loop it to the suspect,” Ireton said.
The suspect allegedly acknowledged that he knew he hit the woman with his car.
Police found the woman after someone called 911 about 7:45 p.m. to report a person lying in the roadway.
Later, the man allegedly told a gas station attendant in Granite Falls that he was having a bad night and led the clerk to believe it had something to do with the medical helicopter, Ireton said.
A bail hearing is not expected until Wednesday.
