Shorecrest, Marysville Pilchuck girls soccer team battle to draw

MARYSVILLE -- A close fought Wesco 3A crossover match between Shorecrest and Marysville Pilchuck that featured two first-half goals and injuries on both sides of the field ended in a draw after two overtime periods.
Fifteen minutes into the game, Shorecrest's Sophia Viviano beat a defender and buried an 18-yard shot from the corner. The Tomahawks answered back when Megan Owens got the ball off a deflection and made a shot to the far post. Then the game settled down, at least in terms of scoring.
"It was end to end," said Marysville Pilchuck head coach Paul Bartley. "It was a pretty even match, (it was) back and forth, it was physical."
So physical that Viviano went out with an injury in the first overtime and the Tomahawks' leading scorer Amanda Klep went out with a sprained knee in the second, according to Bartley.
There were a couple of long shots in overtime, but neither team could break through. While not a victory, Bartley still prized the hard-fought tie.
"It was the best game of the year for us," Bartley said. "It was a well played game both ways."
