SHELTON — A Mason County sheriff’s spokesman says a new Western Washington wildfire burning northeast of Shelton is threatening a dozen homes and has grown to 150 acres.
Firefighters from three counties are battling it and additional state resources are being dispatched.
Chief Deputy Dean Byrd said residents of 10 to 12 homes in the Johns Creek area have been told they might need to leave but he added that the flames in that area appeared to be dying down a little Thursday night. Byrd said up to 25 homes earlier considered threatened near Rainbow Lake were no longer at risk.
Flames were reported burning under Bonneville Power Administration power lines in the area but Byrd said the lines have not been damaged.
No part of the fire has been contained.
Two state helicopters dropped water on the flames. Byrd said more than 40 firefighters have responded from Mason, Thurston and Grays Harbor counties.
No injuries have been reported.
