Missed opportunity
New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, rumored to be a prime presidential candidate in 2016 if Mitt Romney falls short this year, swung by Snohomish County on Thursday to meet with local Republicans and for a private fundraiser.
Christie departed from the county after the fundraiser -- a sure sign that no one thought to mention to the plus-size governor that the Everett Sausage Festival begins today.
Not on our planes: Using cellphones aboard airliners is permissible, if expensive, elsewhere in the world, but there's no great desire in the United States, on the part of the airline industry -- or, allegedly, its customers -- to allow in-flight wireless calls.
Apparently, phone calls would present an intolerable affront to the elegance of today's air travel experience: the kid kicking the back of your seat, the semi-fetid air, the Chris Christie-size guy crammed into the seat next to you, the three-hour waits on the tarmac.
Now reporting from AAA Seattle: Their regular season ended Wednesday, but the Seattle Mariners now move on to postseason play -- the 17 ex-Mariners, many of whom were busts or washouts here -- on playoff-bound teams, that is.
Predicted headline on Oct. 5, 2013: "3-Run Triple by Chone Figgins Clinches Playoff Berth for (insert team other than M's here).
