Brush fire burning in wildlife refuge

WASHOUGAL -- Fire officials in southwest Washington say a brush fire has burned about 40 acres at the Steigerwald National Wildlife Refuge east of Washougal.
Camas-Washougal Fire Chief Nick Swinhart said more than 30 firefighters were battling the fire Friday night. Crews are also trying to keep it from reaching the Washougal Industrial Park and the Washougal Waste Treatment Plant. Swinhart was hopeful that roads in the industrial area would help block the fire's spread.
The Columbian reported that Camas-Washougal Deputy Fire Marshal Randy Miller said a flicked cigarette butt started the fire just before 5 p.m. Friday.
