Man arrested in Spokane burglary, assault

SPOKANE -- Spokane police have arrested a man suspected of assaulting a 62-year-old woman and burglarizing her home last month.
Sgt. Jason Hartman said David J. Bassford, 38, was booked into jail Friday night on investigation of robbery, burglary and assault.
The victim told police a man knocked on her door Sept. 6 but no one was there when she answered. She told police she then saw the suspect walking out of her dining room with her camera. When she confronted him, police say he knocked her to the ground and struck her repeatedly. According to police, the suspect threw the woman down a flight of stairs.
She was treated at a local hospital for injuries, including a broken arm.
