Well done, Tyler

  • Submitted by Dan Stahlberg

This photo is of 7-year-old Tyler Stahlberg of Everett and the 12-pound coho he caught in mid-September off the shipwreck. He used a white glow squid and chartreuse flasher.

According to his father, Dan Stahlberg, young Tyler insisted the squid be tipped with half a red cinnamon gumdrop.

They were fishing on the day of the Edmonds Derby, but did not have derby tickets. Dan Stahlberg later landed a 14-pound fish that would have earned him $5,000 in the derby, had they been entered.

To add to the drama, Tyler had to fight off three separate attempts by a sea lion to steal his fish. A state Department of Fish and Wildlife boat that witnessed the fight later came over to congratulate the boy on a job well done.
