Democratic congressional candidate Suzan DelBene is a star in two new political ads.
One is hers. The other is the creation of Republican John Koster, her opponent.
DelBene’s 30-second spot went up today. It begins with a black-and-white photo of her when she worked as a high school football referee and talks of how that job was good training for Congress.
She spends 30 seconds talking about her plans for rebuilding the middle class and delivering results not rhetoric. The commercial is airing on network and cable stations.
Koster also put up an ad today. It is running only on cable stations. It’s also focused on what DelBene plans to do if elected.
As you might imagine, it’s not complimentary. You can watch it yourself below.
One noteworthy point. It begins by calling her a multi-millionaire and near the end the words “millionaire Suzan DelBene” linger on the screen for several seconds.
She’s a multi-millionaire. That’s a fact.
By using it in the ad, Koster seems to be trying to inject a dose of class warfare into the campaign and snag votes from those who might not like rich people. Interestingly he railed against those using class warfare as a political tactic in his closing comments at a forum in Burlington last month.
“We’ve got to stop dividing people every way we can in this country because someone’s success doesn’t diminish my opportunity to be successful or yours or anybody else’s,” he said. “We’ve got to stop the class warfare and the politics of envy. We’ve got to come together as a country and solve these problems.”
