Crabbing reopens Saturday

If you're not opening a hunting season Saturday, you might break out the crab traps.

Most marine areas of Puget Sound reopen for recreational crabbing on the 13th after summer catch assessments showed more crab available for harvest. Marine Areas 4, 5, 6, 7, 8-1, 8-2, 9, 12 and 13 all open to those with a winter catch card, seven days a week through Dec. 31. Crabbers in areas 10 and 11, Seattle and Tacoma, took their quotas during the summer fishery, said state shellfish policy coordinator Rich Childers.

Winter catch cards are free to those with crab endorsements and avaiable at license vendors statewide. The winter reports are due to the state by Feb. 1. For more information, visit the state web site.
