Rain, even a sniff of fresh water, should spark great coho fishing in local rivers, but there are still, incredibly, a lot of fish coming down the Strait of Juan de Fuca and they’re amenable to an artfully trolled flasher/white squid combo off the shipwreck.
State creel samplers on Sunday, for instance, tallied 179 anglers at the Port Angeles public ramp on Ediz Hook with 292 coho and five chums. That’s better than good for this late in the season.
Not quite as hot, but still very productive, were local waters over the weekend. The Saturday/Sunday count at the Port of Everett ramp was 370 anglers with 228 coho and one chum. Anglers in the San Juans also are sharing in the silver bonanza. Checks at the Washington Park ramp west of Anacortes on Sunday showed 38 fishermen with 40 coho.
