MARYSVILLE -- Police here may have caught a suspected bank robber with his pants down Friday.

The man, 36, is suspected of a 1 p.m. holdup at the Opus Bank branch on State Avenue.

After robbing the bank, the bandit ran down an alley behind a nearby motel, Marysville police Cmdr. Robb Lamoureux said.

An officer searching the area minutes later saw a man in an open doorway at the hotel. The man appeared naked, and somebody quickly shut the door.

A police dog was searching the area, so the officer had to wait to check on the naked man in the motel room. When he did, the man was wearing pants and had his hands in his pockets, Lamoureux said.

When the officer told the man to take his hands out of his pockets, they were covered in ink that appeared to come from a dye pack that had been slipped into the loot stolen from the bank.

The man reportedly admitted the robbery, Lamoureux said. He was expected to be booked into Snohomish County jail for investigation of first-degree robbery.
