OLYMPIA — A man serving more than eight years in prison for trying to hire a hit man to kill a Thurston County judge allegedly sent the judge another letter threatening to kill her.
The Olympian reports 28-year-old James Randall Burnett faces charges of intimidating a judge and felony harassment later this month.
The letter was mailed to Thurston County District Court Judge Kalo Wilcox from the Washington State Penitentiary in Walla Walla on Dec. 9, 2011, two months after Burnett was sentenced for trying to hire a cellmate at the Nisqually Jail to kill her.
Deputy prosecutor James Powers said Friday the letter was reported to authorities last year. Several factors contributed to the long investigation, including that Burnett is not a danger as long as he is in prison and his mail is monitored.
