Everett: Police offer boating safety class
Everett police are offering another “Adventures In Boating” safety class.
The class covers Washington State Parks standards for the boater education card, required for almost everyone except for some age restrictions.
The class is limited to 25 students, and people should register sooner rather than later.
It is set for 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 27 at the south Everett police precinct, 1121 SE Everett Mall Way.

Clinic offers free flu shots Saturday
Molina Medical is offering free flu shots to 300 people at an event scheduled from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the clinic at 15 SW Everett Mall Way.
Preview textbooks for math at open house
In the fall, students in advanced math courses at Everett School District’s high schools will be using new textbooks.
Parents, staff, students and community members are invited to browse the materials being considered and share their comments about those materials at one of the three Math Adoption Open Houses:
•Oct. 29 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Everett High School Library, 2416 Colby Ave.;
Oct. 30, from 6 to 8 p.m. Jackson High School, 1508 136th St. SE, Mill Creek;
Nov. 1 from 5 to 7 p.m. Penny Creek Elementary School math portable, 4117 132nd St. SE, Everett.
Learn the basics of a rain garden in class
A free rain garden design class will be offered to Everett residents this month, with registration.
The class is scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday. It will cover the basics of rain gardens, which help slow and capture rainwater at downspouts or driveways so it can soak into the ground.
The workshops are sponsored by the city of Everett in partnership with the Snohomish Conservation District and Washington State University Extension Snohomish County.

Sultan: $500,000 for Alder Avenue road work
The city received $500,000 to repair and build a quarter-of-a-mile of Alder Avenue.
The city received the funds through the Washington State Department of Transportation at the end of September. The Legislature had approved the funds in May 2012. The city is now planning to apply for federal grants to pay for replacing water and wastewater pipelines beneath Alder Avenue.
The work consists of filling potholes and repaving the avenue between Fifth and Eight streets. The road is a main route for the Community Transit and the Sultan School District.
