Senior Center hosting table tennis tourney this weekend
The players, all of them 50 or older, will be competing for $1,400 in cash prizes in four singles and three doubles divisions. The divisions for singles are 50-65 and 66-and-older for both men and women. The doubles divisions are men's, women's and mixed.
The tournament debuted a year ago "and it was very successful," said event organizer Howard Grossman. Given the prizes, which "are very high for a senior tournament," a competitive field of about 50 players is expected, Grossman said.
Play begins at 9 a.m. Saturday and Sunday, and continues to around 4:30 p.m. both days.
There is no admission fee and the public (of all ages) is welcome. The senior center is located just south of Comcast Arena at 3025 Lombard Ave. in Everett.
The event is named for Dunton, a former member of the senior center and a table tennis participant whose family donated money for the tournament in his memory.
