LAKE STEVENS — A Lake Stevens Middle School student was hit by a school bus while in a crosswalk after classes Monday afternoon, officials said.
The girl, who is in the sixth grade, was taken by aid car to Providence Regional Medical Center Everett, Lake Stevens School District spokeswoman Arlene Hulten said.
“She was conscious and talking when she was transferred,” Hulten said.
The accident occurred around 2:40 p.m. as she was crossing the street by the school, 1031 91st Ave. SE. The campus is west of Highway 9.
The bus driver was taking Lake Stevens High School students home, Hulten said. There were 16 students on the bus at the time.
In keeping with district policy after any bus accident, the driver was given a drug-screening test.
The accident will be investigated by the Washington State Patrol, Lake Stevens police and the district, Hulten said.
