MONROE — A fiber optic cable was accidentally cut in the Monroe area Tuesday, wiping out landline service to many homes and city buildings.
It happened just before 2:50 p.m., according to police.
Preliminary reports were that service would be out until Wednesday morning, said Kurt Mills, executive director for SNOPAC, one of the county’s emergency dispatch systems.
Some people will be unable to call 911.
The city of Monroe on Tuesday activated the emergency operations center and put police and firefighters on roving patrols to keep an eye out for troubles.
People who can’t reach 911 should go to the closest police or fire station. People should not call 911 as a test.
Some cell phone networks have been affected, but not all.
The Monroe police station is at 818 W. Main St. The fire stations are at 22122 132nd St SE and 163 Village Court.
