$250K bail kept in Lake Stevens shooting incident

LAKE STEVENS -- Bail was maintained at $250,000 Monday for a Lake Stevens man who was booked into the Snohomish County Jail for investigation of attempted murder over the weekend.
The man, 55, is accused of removing a gun from a firearms cabinet, loading it and firing at his live-in girl friend, 38. He had not been charged as of late Monday.
Police were called around 1:45 a.m. Saturday to the home in the 9100 block of 15th Place SE.
The woman said the suspect pointed the handgun at her for several seconds before firing a single shot.
"She stated the bullet hit the door within inches of her," court papers said. "She stated her ears were ringing and she could smell the gunshot residue."
The bullet lodged in the door jamb next to the bedroom of a girl, 14.
"Just prior to firing the weapon, he was overheard repeatedly stating he was going to shoot her," Lake Stevens police said in a written statement.
Three other children were inside the house at the time.
Two reported hearing threats and the gunfire.
A girl, 16, told police the couple often argues after they have been drinking alcohol and that she heard the man repeatedly say, "I'm gonna shoot you if you don't leave," court papers said. She reported hearing the shot.
The suspect initially resisted officers, but then complied, police wrote in court papers.
One officer wrote the suspect "was smirking" when a sergeant detained and searched him.
Eight other firearms were removed from the home after the shooting.
