WHAT: The golden rain tree, or Koelreuteria paniculata, is native to China and Korea.
The golden rain tree is a very popular ornamental tree in this country, except in Florida where it is considered invasive.
It creates quite a focal point in the landscape with its yellow summer blossoms and hanging pods in October.
SUN OR SHADE: It will tolerate some shade, but the full majesty of its yellow blooms is best achieved in a sunny location.
SIZE: At 30- to 35-feet tall, it is considered a medium size tree. It will attain a width of approximately 30 feet over time.
SEE IT: At the Evergreen Arboretum and Gardens, 145 Alverson Blvd., Everett; on the western side of the parking lot in the Urban Tree Walk.
