Arlington: Take tour, meet school officials

Arlington Public Schools hosts its third annual “Know Your Schools” event from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Friday. The event includes lunch with Superintendent Kristine McDuffy and other members of the district’s leadership team in the Byrnes Performing Arts Center lobby.

Following a brief informational session, a tour of a few schools is planned.

Sunday chicken dinner planned

Stillaguamish Senior Center’s monthly chicken dinner is set for noon to 2 p.m. Sunday at the center, 18308 Smokey Point Blvd. Cost is $7 for seniors, $8 for adults and teens, $5 for children under 12.

Council to discuss fire, EMS services

Arlington City Council is hosting another meeting regarding the future of fire and emergency medical services in north Snohomish County.

The meeting is set for 6 tonight in council chambers, 110 E. Third St.

Everett: Forest Park Haunted Farm opens

Anybody who wants a scare can venture into the Haunted Farm at Everett’s Forest Park starting Friday.

The Halloween-spirited transformation of the park’s animal farm is open nightly, 6-10 p.m., through Tuesday. Admission is $8 cash only.

A maze of vampires, zombies and ghouls lurks at the farm, which is open to all ages. A “fretting zoo” is for ages 8 and up.

The city parks department is hosting the event with help from Mari’s Place, Creative Space for Children &Adults and Agrii Party &Events. Forest Park is at 802 E. Mukilteo Bvld.

Edmonds: Programs for gifted students

Edmonds School District parents can learn about special programs for gifted or highly capable students at upcoming meetings.

Students are considered gifted or highly capable based on the results of the cognitive abilities test, given in December.

District staff will discuss the high school International Baccalaureate program with current eighth-grade parents from 6:30 to 8 p.m. tonight in the Little Theatre at Edmonds-Woodway High School, 7600 212th St. SW, Edmonds.

Parents of younger students can learn about the challenge gifted program (for students in grades 1-6) and gifted middle school Program (grades 7-8) from 6 to 7 p.m. Nov. 1 at Terrace Park Elementary School, 5409 228th St. SW, Mountlake Terrace. No children please.

Mountlake Terrace: Budget talks tonight

The City Council plans to hold a series of meetings this month and November for budget presentations, review and public hearings before adopting the 2013-14 two-year budget.

Engineering services, community and economic development and fire departments will deliver their budget presentations to the City Council at a work study session at 7 tonight at the Interim City Council Chambers at 6100 219th Street SW, Suite 220 . The development fee schedule will also be reviewed.

The council is expected to adopt a budget on Nov. 19.

Oso: Concert to benefit volunteer fire department

Rhodes River Ranch, 22016 Entsminger Road, plans to host a concert by Bill Staines from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday. Donations of $5 or more go to the Oso Fire Department.

Stanwood: Pilchuck Tree Farm hosts horsemen

Back Country Horsemen Traildusters group plans its 15th annual prize ride Saturday morning at Pilchuck Tree Farm east of Stanwood. Turn at Harvey Creek Road off Highway 9 and follow the signs.

The ride includes a costume contest for horses and riders at 1 p.m. and prizes at 2:30 p.m.
