Regarding the Oct. 15 article, “Fewer trains, more buses?”: I have been riding the Sounder train to Seattle from Everett since 2005. It is a great way to get into and out of Seattle where I work in the Lake Union area. I might be able to get there quicker if I drove, but in the past I had too many days stuck in traffic when some other driver makes a wrong move (dare I say idiotic move?) and the whole freeway is nearly shut down. Or I could take the bus. It is less expensive and drops me off closer to where I work. But have you ever been on the bus when it has broken down and the traffic is snarled and you drank a goodly amount of coffee prior to boarding the bus? Or have you been on the bus in November, it is pouring rain, the windows are steamed up, and the bus is lurching from stopping and starting in the traffic jam? Or have you tried working on the bus while it is lurching down Interstate 5 (I use a laptop) or when the bus is bouncing along (let me tell it can bounce!). On the train I can work (yes, I do work, not play movies or games). On the train there is a bathroom. While the train does not deliver me to Lake Union, it is a much better way to get there. Why not use it? It is available.
I have a difficult time believing that anyone who calls for abandoning the North Sounder line and advocates for more buses actually uses public transit. If it were to come down to eliminating the line, I would be back on the interstate driving into Seattle in my car. I would not be taking the bus. Keep the North Sounder line. Use the North Sounder line.
