PORT TOWNSEND -- A hunter died in a fall from a tree where he had been watching for deer, about 15 miles south of Port Townsend.

The Jefferson County sheriff's office said 66-year-old Gerald Dizon of Silverdale fell more than 25 feet last Saturday. He called his wife who called 911. Dispatchers used GPS coordinates from his phone to help direct medics, deputies and a Fish and Wildlife officer to the scene.

The Kitsap Sun reported that Dizon was hunting with a partner who was not nearby when he fell.

He was found at the base of a tree and died on the way to a hospital.
