3A District 1 Girls Soccer Tournament

Meadowdale beats Everett in title game

SHORELINE — Meadowdale senior forward Tisha Parsley scored midway through the first half to give the Mavericks a one goal victory over Everett in the 3A District 1 championship match.
Parsley was able to shake loose from the Seagulls defense and beat goalkeeper Katie Johnson with a shot inside the penalty area in the 25th minute.
After the goal, Meadowdale coach Wade Foley changed the Mavs formation and moved Parsley back to solidfy the defense.
“We wanted more steady possession and for the attack for both teams to be slower,” Foley said about the switch. “Once I did that, we switched from attacking down the center to attacking from the wings.”
While Everett couldn't crack the Meadowdale defense, the Mavericks couldn't find a second goal to ice the game and the Seagulls had a couple of free kick chances late.
“Everett plays pretty tight,” said Foley. “They don't give up many opportunities and have a lot of seniors in defense.”
Both teams advanced to the 3A state tournament which begins on Wednesday. Undefeated Meadowdale will host Bainbridge, while Everett plays at Kennedy. Kickoff for both matches is scheduled for 7 pm.
