3A District 1 Girls Swim Meet

MP's Coleman, Taylor shine at districts

MARYSVILLE — Marysville Pilchuck’s Melody Coleman and Hannah Taylor each won two events, while the Shorewood Thunderbirds took the overall team title at the Wesco 3A District swimming finals.
Coleman won the 200-yard individual medley and the 100 backstroke and Taylor was victorious in the 100 yard butterfly and 100 backstroke.
“Both (Coleman and Taylor) swam faster in the finals then in the prelims,” said Tomahawks coach Jaci LeGore-Hodgins. “I’m really excited to see what they can bring at the state meet.”
The Thunderbirds, despite not winning an individual event, used two relay wins and superior numbers to take the team crown with a score of 517. Oak Harbor finished second with 443.
“Our goal was to win the meet,” Shorewood coach Susie McDowell said afterwards. “Our team has a lot of depth and the district format serves us well.”
McDowell wanted her team to sweep the relay events, but had to settle for two out of three, the 200 medley relay and the 200 freestyle relay, including breaking a school record in the medley relay. The Meadowdale team of Anna Keane, Anne Shirey, Anabella King, and Victoria Nguyenle prevented a Thunderbirds sweep with a 400 freestyle win.
