Lake Stevens director named to state group’s leadership
Mari Taylor from the Lake Stevens School Board was recently voted in as the 2013 president-elect of the Washington State School Directors Association board of directors. She is currently the group’s vice president.
School directors from the state’s 295 school districts cast ballots in September in an online election. Taylor will take on her new role after the group’s annual conference in November.
Lake Stevens school district honors staff
Lake Stevens School District employees will be recognized Wednesday for their good work.
The Apple Award is given to those who create a positive, caring and productive school environment through exceptional effort, dedication or performance in their areas of responsibility.
October recipients of the award are: Jeannie Dye, paraeducator at Hillcrest Elementary; Lisa Anderson, absent replacement custodian for Lake Stevens School District; Linda Mauer, librarian at Mount Pilchuck Elementary; Judy Gapp, bus driver for Lake Stevens School District.
The awards will be presented during the Lake Stevens School Board meeting at 7:30 p.m., in the Educational Service Center.
Lynnwood teacher honored by Rotary
Hazelwood Elementary School’s Jamie Baggett was named the Alderwood-Terrace Rotary Educator of the Month for October.
Baggett teaches visually impaired children in kindergarten to sixth grade and has National Board Certification status.
Credit union selects Teacher of the Week
The Washington State Employees Credit Union recently chose Johnna Stewart, a counselor at Lynndale Elementary as a Teacher of the Week.
For being nominated and winning she received a pair of tickets to a Seattle Mariners game in a Safeco Field suite. In addition, she receives a $500 classroom grant.
Kamiak Student of Month recognized
Nick Lambert, a senior at Kamiak High School, was named September Kamiak Student of the Month by the South Everett-Mukilteo Rotary Club.
He recently received a plaque in recognition of his academic achievements and leadership activities.
Nick has a 3.95 grade point average and serves as the Academic Coaches vice president. He belongs to the National Honor Society, is a member of the yearbook committee and has been awarded advance placement Scholar with Distinction. He has also volunteered for Relay for Life and served under Congressman Rick Larsen.
Nick, who has been involved with varsity basketball, Cross Fit, and has earned a letter in varsity baseball, also has a passion for bicycling. His two-wheeled accomplishments include a ride to San Francisco in 2011, and tour around the Big Island of Hawaii this past summer.
Upon graduation in June, he plans to study mechanical engineering, mathematics, or architecture at a four-year college or university.
Monroe High School scholars selected
Department scholars at Monroe High School were recently announced.
Teachers of each department select students to earn the recognition based on interests in courses, a desire to excel, and a willingness to pursue further knowledge. In addition, the characteristics of commitment to excellence, good citizenship, class participation and leadership in class activities are essential to the final selections.
