ISSAQUAH — Liberty defeated Shorcrest in the first round of the 3A state girls soccer tournament. Shorcrest’s defense held off Liberty for 3/4 of the match, but in the 61st minute Kali Youndahl came through the middle to finish a ball from Kiana Hafferty to break the scoreless tie.
“They play very fast. We kind of weathered the storm through halftime,” said Shorecrest head coach Mindy Dalziel. “(In the second half) they came out firing on all cylinders, which is what you expect from a team that finished second in state last year.
With the loss, the season is over for the Scots.
